IOSH 'Managing Safely' Course

Aims

 

To ensure that safety requirements are fully understood by line managers so that they can:

  • review their own departmental systems for safety

  • introduce new controls or implement changes to ensure safety in the workplace.


Who should attend

All managers and supervisors in any sector or organisation who are required to manage safety risks and resources.


Course duration

Four days* or 24 learning hours. These can be completed as a block session or in split sessions to suit your needs.

Learning objectives

On successful completion of the course, delegates will be able to:
  • Explain ‘working safely’
  • Explain the component parts of a recognised safety management system, such as HSG65, BS 8800 and OHSAS 18001
  • Outline the main provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) and the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (1999)

Identify the data and techniques needed to:
  • produce adequate records of an incidentdemonstrate the procedure for accident investigation, recognising the human factors involved

  • describe statutory requirements for reporting and procedures for checking non-reporting

  • define ‘hazard’ and ‘risk’

  • describe the legal requirements for risk assessment

  • describe workplace precaution hierarchies.

Managing Safely includes

  • PowerPoint presentation, featuring state-of-the-art animation

  • Clear delegate workbook with sections for notes, Q&A sessions and plenty of simple, custom-designed illustrations - no clip art!

  • User-friendly training notes, including focused training clips and extra background information, enabling trainers to go into more detail in all key areas

  • A board game and quizzes to bring health and safety to life and maximise interaction

  • Two DVDs

  • A bank of assessments - delegates’ understanding of health and safety basics is evaluated using multi-format questions and a risk assessment project


Where will the training happen?
Futures’ Head Office is located in central Nottingham and we have our own training room. We can also deliver the IOSH training on your premises.
