School’s Out, Work Experience is in!
Our work placements are an innovative service for local young people and help you as a parent or carer do more for your son or daughter’s future.
The work experience placements help give local teenagers a better chance of securing work in the future in what are difficult times for young people looking to enter the labour market.
We think our summer placements are particularly attractive to parents and careers for their sons and daughters, as they come at a time when the traditional work experience arranged by schools is under threat due to government spending cuts and we feel students shouldn't miss out on this transforming experience.
Unpaid work experience is a great way to gain an insight into a working environment. Experience in a particular sector can give young people a head start, providing a reference for College, University and job applications. Work experience helps to develop and improve the skills we all need to succeed in employment.
Employers are identifying that school leavers lack crucial employability skills including experience of the workplace. There are many examples of employers voicing this message including the Confederation of British Industry report ‘Action for Jobs’.
It is clear that Universities like to see mention of knowledge of the world of work in Personal Statements on UCAS application forms.
We also know that many parents would like to have something interesting and useful for their teen-age children to do during the long summer holiday.
Futures (who also delivered Connexions in Nottinghamshire) has organised the school work experience programme for Nottinghamshire schools for the last 10 years and has ensured that work placements are safe and properly arranged. We are now offering parents and carers the opportunity to purchase our services to arrange work experience placements during school holidays for young people aged between 13 and 19. We can arrange placements that are matched to age, ability, interests and aspirations.
Our offer is for the arrangement of a 10 day (2 week) work experience placement at a cost of £150 and this will include:
-
A full Health & Safety and safeguarding risk assessment of the placement
-
A risk assessment of the young person undertaking the placement
-
Ensuring that the necessary insurance is in place
-
Monitoring of welfare and progress during the placement
-
A Certificate of Achievement, endorsed by the employer
The charge is an arrangement fee for organising and monitoring the placement and at only £15 per day represents great value and your child would be productively engaged in improving their employability skills and their progression opportunities. Shorter placements (still at £150) can be arranged and additional weeks are also possible, charged at £60 per week.
